What better way to start with a player who used to be the best in the world, and who is still admired by millions across Brazil and Europe?

Ronaldinho openly shared with us his happiness to be back in Brazil with Flamengo. The club won the Carioca Championship in May, and the former Ballon d’Or hopes to be back in his national team for the upcoming World Cup in his country…..

Tell us about your new life in Brazil?

Everything is going well! I’m back in Brazil, and on top of that I play for a club that has one of the highest numbers of fans across the world. It is really exceptional to be here. I have already won titles since I returned (the Taça Guanabara followed by the Taça Rio and therefore the Carioca championship). Now I’ll have to carry on the work so that I can add more victories throughout the season.

Why is Flamengo so special?

Everything is different here, the club has many supporters. In every corner of the world there are Flamenguistas. That is what makes the club so special. Flamengo is Flamengo, it is really a club like no other.

After eleven years in Europe, had you had enough?

No that is not it. I wanted to come back to Brazil because of all that is happening here now, and especially the perceptive of the coming World Cup. There are also a lot of titles that I’m missing here and that I really want to win. In Europe, I had the chance to win nearly all the big titles. Here, I come back with new objectives.

Now that you live in Rio, they call you Ronaldinho Carioca! Tell us about Rio?

I really fit in in this city. I love the Samba, the beaches, the foot-volley, so everybody teases me by saying that I became Ronaldinho Carioca. But even if like Rio a lot, I am and I always will be Ronaldinho Gaucho, in other words, from the South of Brazil.

You still believe in that you can make it to the Seleção?

2014 Ronaldinho It is my main objective. I need to have a good season with Flamengo in order to get back in the national team. I have great hopes and no doubts in my ability to make it happen. I feel great physically speaking, super great actually, so this is my aim: play the World Cup 2014 in my country! My story with the Seleção is not over.

How is your relationship with Mano Menezes ?

We get along well. My current goal is to prove through my performances with Flamengo that I still have the skills to play in the national team.

You have been the best in the world, today is it Messi?

Yes! And I’m very happy for him, he is a great friend, I met him at the beginning of his career, and I wish him all the best, because apart from being an incredible person, he is really the best football player in the world today! On the other hand I’m very happy with everything that I have achieved football wise and I am convinced that my story isn’t finished.

Do you miss Ronaldo?

Yes, I’m sad he retired. He was an idol for an entire generation, my generation, and I was lucky enough to have my idol as a friend. He stopped playing recently but already the world misses him.

What do you think of the new generation of Brazilian players such as Neymar, Ganso, David Luiz?

Neymar despite is young age is already part of the seleção, and here at Flamengo, we have a young player who is very skilled, Negueba. I think Brazil is on the right tracks for the coming years, there is a real potential, everything seems good for the future… there is also Lucas who plays for São Paulo, who is very talented.

What are your memories of the PSG (Paris Saint Germain)?

I’m very nostalgic of this period at the Paris-SG, it was my first club in Europe. I loved that city, the supporters, the stadium (le Parc des Princes), it was an unforgettable experience in my life, it is something that touched me and that I miss even today… I made a lot of friends at the time. Not only players, I’m still in contact with a lot of people who are living in Paris, and I kept a real connection with that city and its inhabitants… Each time I go to Paris, they ask me when I will be back at the club, but now I’m in Brazil, and I’m happy, so I’m not sure if I’ll ever go back to Europe.

Can Nenê become a star of the PSG?

He is already one! He is a good friend of mine, I have a lot of affection for him, I hope he wins a lot of trophies and that he becomes part of the club’s history.

Did you know that Silvio Berlusconi misses you a lot?

Mr Berlusconi has always treated me with a lot of affection, and he is someone I admire, he is a bit of a father for me, as he always treated me as his son… Now, I follow Milan’s games with interest, because of all the friends I left behind and also because of Mister Berlusconi. I also followed all the news and stories around him, for the affection and friendship I feel for him. I hope he manages to find solutions in the best way possible.
